Deputy superintendent to leave Durham Public Schools
Dr. Nakia Hardy, who will assume the superintendent position at Lexington (NC) City Schools, becomes the third senior staff member in the last two months to announce a departure from the district.
The Deputy Superintendent of Durham Public Schools will leave her position to take over as the next superintendent of Lexington City Schools, according to a press release from the Triad school district on Monday.
Dr. Nakia Hardy, who joined DPS in January 2018 just weeks after Dr. Pascal Mubenga was sworn in as superintendent, is now the third senior administration figure to announce a departure from DPS in the last two months. Previously in April, the departures of Dr. Julius Monk, the Deputy Superintendent of Operational Services, and William “Chip” Sudderth, the Chief Communication Officer and voice of DPS robocalls, were announced in an email from DPS. Dr. Monk is returning to Guilford County Schools to serve as Deputy Superintendent of Business and Operations; his last day at DPS will be May 31. Mr. Sudderth, according to the email, is said to be pursuing “new opportunities in public communication” following his last day of June 30.
Dr. Hardy has 25 years of experience in education, including as a classroom teacher and principal. Last fall, she was a finalist for superintendent at Lexington County School District One in South Carolina. She will start her position as superintendent of Lexington City Schools on July 1. Lexington City Schools is one of three school districts in Davidson County and has six schools.
“I am so excited to partner with the Lexington City School Board and community at large to ensure positive outcomes for all children, socially, emotionally, and academically,” Dr. Hardy said in the release.
Mr. Sudderth told BCPI on Monday that the search for the next deputy superintendent will begin in the days ahead with a public advertisement of the available position.
Mr. Sudderth added in regard to the outgoing Dr. Hardy: “We are proud of her opportunity and wish her well.”
